“Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its continuing mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before.”
Next to Captain Kirk and the Vulcan Spock, we traveled for years to discover new planets, exploring the universe from our porthole to get beyond the boundaries of the imaginable. Aboard the Enterprise, we crossed the Apennines, the Alps, we flew over the Atlantic Ocean and then off over the Exosphere in the cosmic void to land on the Red Planet. Eyes temporarily blinded from the desert, the canyons, the boundless expanses, the sand, with a hundred, nay a thousand shades of red. Everything seemed distant and yet so close, so fantastical and yet real. On the return trip we awoke adults, lost in the daily mundanity. A handful of red soil and black rocks our reminder that we had indeed been on that planet.
